Recently, radio access technologies for the fifth generation (5G) have been extensively studied. Especially, at high-SHF and EHF band over 6GHz, ultra high capacity transmission over 10Gbps has attracted much attention. This report shows R&D Activities in Mitsubishi Electric Corporation on 5G base station design at high-SHF band. Concretely, the authors introduce an analog-beamforming MIMO (APAA-MIMO) technology with active phased array antenna (APAA) and digital MIMO processing for the multi-beam multiplexing and propose a novel 5G base station at 15GHz band, which delivers more than 20Gbps of throughput with 16-beam multiplexing. Furthermore, the computer simulation evaluates the performance of the APAA-MIMO system with the cluster-channel model obtained through outdoor experiments using 44GHz-band APAA. |
