An Improvement of Crossover in Assembly of Jigsaw Puzzles Using a GA Kazuyuki Takahashi, Koji Obokata (NIT, Ichinoseki College) COMP2015-29 |

We applied a genetic algorithm to assemble the square piece jigsaw puzzle. We used a gray scale image in the puzzle and assembled by using information on the outline of the pixel value in the pieces. Applying the genetic operation of a conventional general GA ended up with lethal gene which repeated the same piece several times. In this study, we propose an improved crossover method to avoid lethal gene by operating the piece with the complete bipartite graph minimum cost matching. The proposed method, compared to Toyama's method, showed that it was possible to obtain more efficient optimal solution. |
