We have been researching and developing a digital Beam Former and Digital Channelizer (DBF/channelizer) for communication satellites, and to reduce its power consumption, we have been studying the pipeline processing in the DBF processor as opposed to the conventional processing method. To estimate the power consumption of the DBF/channelizer, we developed a proto type pipeline processor, and performed power consumption measurements, which showed that power consumption of DBF/channelizer could be reduced without degrading performance. This paper describes our study of DBF processing methods and presents the results of DBF/channelizer power consumption measurement, and discuss the feasibility of DBF/channelizer using the pipeline processing method for the future 127 element array feed and 100 beam system in terms of power consumption. |
