Small Optical TrAnsponder (SOTA) has been launched and injected into 650 km-SSO on 24th May 2014, which is developed by National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) and installed on a 50 kg-class piggy-bag satellite “SOCRATES (Space Optical Communication Research Advanced Technology Satellite)”of H2A launch vehicle.
Until June 2015, at the optical ground station in NICT Koganei, we succeeded in receiving the mission data from SOTA via the 1.5 μm wavelength optical link with 10 Mbps speed signals, FEC (forward error correction) and LDGM (Low-Density Generator Matrix) cording for relaxing an atmospheric fading. In this work, we describe an initial overview of the satellite-ground laser communication experimental demonstrations between the ground station and LEO. |
