NTT Laboratory is studying distributed array antenna (DAA) systems for satellite communications that offer improved EIRP and G/T. Unfortunately, the conventional approach to acquiring DAA antenna patterns is really inefficient because it requires an extremelylarge measurement site that can accommodate the whole structure with its multiple antennas. Our solution is to estimate the DAA antenna pattern by integrating actual single antenna patterns and applying an array factor yielded by array parameters.
To validate our estimation method, we compare our simulated patterns generated from actual single antenna patterns with measured DAA patterns. Since the comparison results using two Ku band parabolic antennas confirm the accuracy of the estimation method regardless of frequency, antenna arrangement and polarization, we conclude that the estimation method is practical for estimating the DAA patterns. |
