Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) reviously, we have proposed a concept of a wireless communication system to provide broadband video datalink for multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in order to monitor a large building in real-time. It tracks the UAVs by multiple base stations (BSs) with a high-gain antenna and performs handover to satisfy a requirement on received signal power. This paper proposes a handover algorithm so as to avoid degrading the received signal power to unallowable level due to the increase of path loss, shadowing by the large building, or overloading of a BS by communicating with too many UAVs. It switches the UAV's communicating BS and the tracking target UAVs of the BS. The effectiveness of the proposed handover algorithm is evaluated by computer simulations which assume a situation where three UAVs fly around a large building, and four BSs track them. It is confirmed that the proposed handover algorithm can reduce the outage probability of the received signal power to achieve enough throughput for real-time video streaming via IEEE 802.11g WLAN by combined with the previously proposed UAV tracking algorithm.
