A Study of Generalised Space Shift Keying Using Multiple Quad LEDs

(in English) In this paper, we consider generalised space shift keying (GSSK) using multiple colour LEDs for improving the error performance of GSSK using white LEDs with phosphor especially when higher spectral efficiency as a method of optical intensity modulation for visible light communication. In the proposed GSSK system, at the transmitter, N_{Tx} quad-LEDs with Blue, Cyan, Yellow, and Red are used, and at the receiver, multiple photo-diodes with colour filters are used. Therefore this system can achieve a maximum of 4N_{Tx} bits/sec/Hz. We evaluate the symbol error rate performances and throughput performances of proposed system and conventional GSSK from theoretical analysis and simulation analysis under consideration of the transmitter-receiver configurations within the room with the condition on the same spectral efficiency and PD's active area in total. Consequently, proposed system can achieve the maximum average throughput performance with a 30dB improvement of the averaged transmitted power-to-noise ratio per symbol compared with the conventional GSSK with white LEDs.
