Crystal Structure Analysis of Non-peripheral Octahexyl Phthalocyanine in Thin Film and Single Crystal

(in English) The molecular packing structure in a thin film of the liquid crystalline phthalocyanine, 1,4,8,11,15,18,22,25 –octahexylphthalocyanine (C6PcH2) and the crystal structure in single crystals of C6PcH2 by X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurement were studied. The crystal structure of C6PcH2 in the thin film was determined to be a centered rectangular structure (a = 36.4 Å、b = 20.3 Å). The tilt angle of the phthalocyanine core normal vector was 34-39º from the column axis, and the stacking period was estimated to be 4.8-5.0 Å. The block and needle-like shape of single crystals were grown by recrystallization. The block and needle-like single crystals were different from not only their shapes but also their crystal structures. The crystal structure of the block single crystal was a reported structure and the needle-like single crystal was a novel structure. It is found that the crystal structure in the thin films must be same as that of the needle-like single crystals by temperature dependency of the lattice constant.
