Followings are known as “common practices” in the research of solution-processed organic solar cells to achieve high efficiency: ?Fullerene derivatives with high solubility such as C70-PCBM should be used.?Halogenated aromatic solvents such as chlorobenzene should be chosen. However, the use of fullerene without chemical modification potentially reduces the economical and environmental costs. Moreover, the use of halogenated solvents is not desirable in terms of toxicity and environmental impact. In this context, the author is studying the Solution-processed organic solar cells using unmodified fullerene and halogen-free solvent. It has been found that the PTB7:C70 photocells prepared with 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene (pseudocumene) show power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 3-4% under AM1.5G 1 sun illumination. In comparison with the device with C70-PCBM, the device with unmodified C70 shows low PCE but superior thermal robustness. It has been also found that power conversion efficiency (PCE) becomes higher at lower light illumination. |
