The far-carrier phase noise measurement of the oscillator

(in English) In this paper, the measurement setup and the measured result of the far-carrier phase noise of the RF oscillator are described. This far-carrier phase noise is necessary for extraction of the oscillator’s Q-factor in the Leeson's formula. To measure the extreme low far-carrier phase noise, we propose the measurement setup with the spectrum analyzer, the band rejection filter and the low noise amplifier. The measured far-carrier phase noise of the 800 MHz band oscillator with the open circuited λ/2 transmission line (R0=50Ω) is -176dBc/Hz@180MHz. The extracted Q-factor of the oscillator is 1.7.
