| (in English) | Spatial multi-mode multiplexing (MDM) is expected to become one of the next generation transmission technologies. One important issue is to realize mode converter on photonic integrated circuit for MDM system. So far, a number of mode converters have been proposed and demonstrated. Among them, MMI mode converter is attractive because of its relatively high fabrication tolerance. However, in general, MMI waveguide has wavelength dependency as it works based on the interference of propagating light inside of the device. Therefore, we analysed the wavelength dependency on the excess loss of the MMI mode converter theoretically. As a result, we have confirmed that MMI width in addition to access waveguide width ratio over MMI width are the important design criteria. | |
