Bit Error Rate Performance of Single Carrier Differential QPSK/Differential Detection in Actual Under Water Acoustic Communications Environment

(in English) This paper discusses bit error rate (BER) performance of underwater acoustic communications (UWAC) in actual under water environment. This paper assumes that modulation and coding schemes are differential QPSK and differential detection as a function of transmission symbol rate. This paper evaluates BER performance by means of off-line acoustic communication evaluation systems using commercial electronic acoustic equipment and off-line signal processing software for BER evaluation using the stored received signals. This paper evaluates BER performance of UWAC in actual shallow environments of Lake Biwa, assuming water depth of around 3m. This field evaluation results confirm that the proposed UWAC system has BER of less than 10-3, assuming 5m distance between transmit and receive transducers and 2-branch diversity reception and less than around 800sps transmit symbol rate.
