A Basic Study on Wireless Power Transfer with Self-Resonant Antenna Using an Existing Structure as a Repeater

(in English) Recently, coupled-resonant wireless power transfer (WPT) technology is getting large interests for charge of cellular phones, laptops and electrical vehicles. To solve problems to put in practical use, It is necessary to extend transmission distance and achieve high transmission efficiency. For solutions for the problems above, parallel wire line or repeater coil is proposed. These methods have advantage on high transmission efficiency over wide area. However, those methods require additional equipment for power transfer, which restricts freedom of installation and increases cost. In this paper, we propose a WPT with self-resonant antenna using an existing structure as a repeater. Self-resonant antenna has an inductive reactance component and a capacitive reactance component, so not only magnetic field but also electric field contributes to coupling. This makes it possible to use existing conductive structure, such as reinforcing bar, as a repeater.
