This paper describes a novel spot welding technique for overlapped copper foils of flexible printed circuits (FPC) and its experimental results. Each cover film of FPC has holes and the copper foils are exposed at the holes. Two insulated aluminum sheets which sandwiched the overlapped foils are put in a one-turn coil. Each foil has a small gap at each hole. The foils are accelerated with the sheets by electromagnetic force and collide at high speed and are spot-welded through the holes. The base and cover films around the foils do not melt. |
