A Study on Antenna Array Design in MIMO systems with Single Base Station Antenna

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In recent years, operators are facing enormous traffic demand by explosive growth of smartphones. Multiple-input/multiple-output(MIMO) wireless system provides an increase in channel capacity without new cell site installation, but conventional MIMO antennas for multiple branches require a large space at the cell site, and they are hardly installed in practice. One of the authors has proposed MIMO systems with a single antenna which forms multiple beams per each MIMO branch. However, design of the beam patterns has not been studied in detail. This report proposes the method of designing the patterns by solving optimization problem which uses Nash product of channel capacities as objective function. Simulation result shows the effectiveness of the proposed method.
