Wireless mesh networks have been attracting attentions as networks providing area-specific services both under normal circumstances and conditions of disaster relief with relatively lower cost. Currently, one of typical services provided in wireless mesh networks is live streaming of video being recorded by monitoring cameras installed in the fixed-points considering the advance of the mobile terminal capability and wireless communication systems, live streaming of video transmitted by moving users having smartphones is likely to obtain increased popularity in the near future. To deploy this kind of services, multicast routing supporting mobile sources will be a key technique to improve bandwidth utilization efficiency. However, in the case that we achieve this goal by using PIM-SM, the typical existing multicast routing protocol, it requires that all APs in the wireless mesh network have the function of a multicast router, and it causes much increase of the expense .For that reason, we have presented Hi-mobilecast, two layer multicast combining layer3 multicast and layer2 multicast In the past studies, we focused on the evaluating performance of the multicast tree assuming that a mobile source stays in each AP along the moving path for constant time duration, and we did not consider temporal delay increase caused by the multicast tree reconstruction during handover. In this paper, we evaluate routing performance of Hi-mobilecast considering transit state during handover and shows the benefits over other existing schemes. |
