This report discusses the research progress of the helicopter obstacle detection small transmitting power 76 GHz millimeter-wave radar system. The purpose of the on-board radar is to detect and avoid obstacles such as high-voltage power lines and pylons that may affect flight safety. Firstly, the overview of the development project of the helicopter collision avoidance millimeter-wave radar is explained. Secondly, the performance improvement of the 76 GHz millimeter-wave radar system, which satisfies the low-transmitting power radar specification in Japan, is discussed. To improve the detection performance of the radar system, the front-end circuits of the radar receiver and the signal processing algorism are experimentally investigated. Finally, the results of the ground detection test of the high-voltage power lines are discussed for the future fight experiments. The reflections from the high-voltage power lines which are located more than 800 m away from the radar are obtained with the 25 dB signal-to-noise ratio. |
