A long-term monitoring of a landslide slope in Kurihara-city, Miyagi, by GB-SAR

(in English) In the present report, an example of a ground-based synthetic aperture radar (GB-SAR) measurement for the displacement of landslide slope is illustrated. The measurement is being carried out in Aratozawa, Kurihara-city, Miyagi, Japan, since 2011, to observe and to evaluate the stability of the landslide slope. The result shows that very local and small changes possibly caused by precipitation have been observed; however, no significant changes throughout the slope have never observed and the slope is thus stable. Further, by analysing data right before and after an earthquake, a local displacement caused by the earthquake was observed. Therefore, GB-SAR measurement is very effective for monitoring landslide. In addition, examples of infrastructure monitoring using GB-SAR conducted in the framework of “Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP)” are demonstrated. Although it is still in the phase of feasibility study, it is shown that the changes on runway and taxiway in an airport caused by temperature change and the displacement on a railway bridge caused by a passing train can be measured.
