Power Analysis Attack for a Lightweight Block Cipher Simeck

(in English) Lightweight block ciphers have attracted attention, because an interest against the security of embedded devices has been increased. A new lightweight block cipher Simeck which is presented in CHES2015 can be implemented on the smallest area in lightweight block ciphers. Regarding the security of cryptographic circuit, the threat of power analysis attacks is pointed out. Many studies about power analysis attacks for standard ciphers such as AES have been reported. However, power analysis attack for Simeck has not been reported. Therefore, this study proposes a new power analysis attack for a lightweight block cipher Simeck. The proposed method performs the attack using multiple rounds which is based on typical power analysis such as DPA and CPA. Experiments using a FPGA prove the validity of the proposed method.
