Effects of temporal attention on the recalibration of audiovisual interaction and simultaneity

(in English) The subjective simultaneity, in audiovisual integration, has been assumed to be closely related to the integration of multisensory information, since the cross-modal interaction such as the Stream/Bounce illusion depends on the temporal proximity in the audiovisual stimuli. Recent study, however, reported that the case where the temporal order judgment and the cross-modal interaction yield the different response distribution from each other, which suggests that both reflect the different temporal processing mechanisms. In the present study, we investigated the temporal property of the processing of the subjective simultaneity and the cross-modal interaction by the recalibration patterns in both indices, using lag adaptation technique and controlling the subjects’ attention during the adaptation. Different recalibration patterns between the attentional conditions and the judgment tasks suggested the processing of the subjective simultaneity and the cross-modal interaction have the different temporal properties.
