Design of the 4-th order Optical Discrete Fourier Transformer with Asymmetric Mach-Zehnder Interferometer based on Si Buried Waveguide

(in English) Fourier-coded synchronous optical code division multiplexing (FE-OCDM) scheme may realize optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing by all-optical signal processing based on a passive optical device, an optical discrete Fourier transformer (ODFT). In this report, a design of the 4-th order ODFT, which can be used as en/decoder for four-channel FE-SOCDM, with cascaded asymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometers (AMZI) implemented as Si-buried optical waveguide is reported. In the proposed design, one of the AMZI arm consists of a fixed attenuator implemented as a directional coupler to avoid orthogonality degradation due to propagation losses in an optical delay line in another arm of the AMZI. In addition, to enable precise phase tuning, TiN heaters were added on a part of the delay line.
