[Poster Presentation] A study on relation between stimulus frequency bandwidth and the size of sketched sound image

(in English) For the purpose of walking assistance for visually impaired person, we are developing a system that presents information of location and size of obstacle using virtual auditory display based on binaural synthesis. In the system, the size of obstacle is expressed as the perceived size of sound image. We employ stimulus frequency bandwidth to control the perceived size of sound image. In this report, we investigate the relationship between frequency bandwidth and perceived size of sound image by asking subjects to sketch sound images. The results suggest that wider stimulus frequency bandwidth leads to larger size of perceived sound image.
