One of major drawbacks in OFDM is its high peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR). As a conventional method to reduce PAPR in OFDM transmitter, a self-synchronized scrambler-based selected mapping method(SS-SLM) has been investigated. In this method, a self-synchronized scrambler is utilized to generate candidate sequences in SLM. At the receiver side, original data sequence is obtained by descrambling operation causes error propagation that degrades bit error(BER) performance. To deal with this problem, in this paper, we consider a partial scrambling SLM-SS(PSLM-SS) where only most significant bits allocated to I- and Q-phase of QAM symbol are scrambled to reduce PAPR of QAM-OFDM signals. Using PSS-SLM, error propagation is effectively mitigated when QAM is used as subcarrier modulation. Simulation results show instantaneous power at CCDF=10^-4 is reduced by about 3.5dB by using PSS-SLM while mitigating BER degradation. |
