Evaluation of Transmission Loss of Transmission Line Using Unloaded Q-factors

(in English) Generally, Q-factors of transmission lines are expressed by the wave-number in media, the transmission loss, and the energy velocity. Although this expression is usually applied to discuss the transmission loss of the transmission line using the unloaded Q factor of the guided wave type of resonator, we should pay attention to treating the expression because the Q-factor of the transmission line is not usually identical with the unloaded Q factor of the guided wave type of resonator. Having this fact in mind, the evaluation method of the transmission loss using the unloaded Q factor was demonstrated for an example of the Non-Radiative Dielectric waveguide (NRD guide) by obtaining Q factors of some higher resonant modes in this paper.
