The reconstruction of the missing pixels in the digital image using unmissing pixels and belief propagation

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A digital image inpainting is an image processing method that reconstructs missing or degraded pixels in the image by using information of unmissing regions in the image.
The fast reconstruction methods that use a gradient of the image intensities and a Gaussian graphical model have been already proposed.
In this paper, we propose an image inpainting method for discrete valued images by using a belief porpagation that is a famous inference method in the field of probabilistic image processing. We numerically checked the performance of the proposed method against the model parameters.
Also, we applied the method for an image interpolation and compared with the existing filter methods.
