We have verified experimentally that the temperature of the surface of a silicone rubber material increased significantly by irradiating of high-intensity aerial converged ultrasonic waves (frequency 20 kHz). Ratio of temperature rise of the surface of the sample was dependent on the intensity of the irradiated sound waves. For example, when ultrasonic waves were irradiated with the sound pressure of about 25kPa, the temperature rose about 15 °C after 1 second from the start of the irradiation of the acoustic waves. These effects suggest that it is possible to heat the object by aerial ultrasonic irradiation. When sound waves are irradiated from an oblique direction with respect to the surface of the rubber, a greater increase in temperature was observed. |
