We construct a novel signal flow graph (SFG) to express radio wave propagation characteristics between two antennas in short-range free-space communication.
The novel SFG contains a complex value term related to radar cross section (RCS) as well as gain of each antenna unlike the simplest SFG which is directly derived from the Friis transmission formula.
In the process of constructing the SFG, we newly introduce an unprecedented term, named "free-space mismatch coefficient," which depends on the distance between two antennas.
We estimated the antenna parameters such as RCS and antenna gain based on the novel SFG for various antenna models (e. g. two identical half-wavelength dipoles and rectangular patch antennas).
The estimated parameters showed good agreement with that of a single antenna model. |
