This paper proposes a new method for mapping volume models of human tissues onto a target volume with simple shape. The proposed method is based on our modified self-organizing deformable model (mSDM) [1], [2] which finds the one-to-one mapping with no foldovers between a tissue surface model and its target surface. By extending mSDM to apply to tissue volume models, the proposed method, called volumetric SDM (vSDM), maps from the volume model to its target volume. At the same time, vSDM preserves geometrical features of the original model before and after the mapping. These characteristics of vSDM makes it easy to find the correspondence between tissue volume models with complex shapes. We verified the effectiveness of our method through experiment with mapping a volume model of a lenticular nucleus to a target volume with ellipsoidal shape. |
