Non-Rigid Registration of Brain Block Models for Constructing 3D Japanese Brain Atlas

(in English) We have been constructing the 3D atlas of a Japanese braincite{japanese_atlas}. In constructing the atlas, we cut a cadaver brain into blocks with 1[cm] thick, and slice each block into serial slices with 1[$mu$m] thick. The contours of internal structures in each slice are extracted manually. The 3D brain atlas is generated by aligning the contours obtained from all the slices. Then, the force produced by the edge causes the deformation of regions around the cross sections of the blocks and slices. When the contours are aligned by a simple rigid registration, the obtained atlas has discontinuous shapes. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a non-rigid registration method of the blocks to construct brain atlas. Our method deforms the blocks to fit to a reference brain model which obtains before cutting a cadaver brain.
