[Invited Talk] A Review on Community Instrumentation Techniques utilizing Communication Behavioral Data

(in English) Large-scale and fine-grained records of network users' activities are currently available on the Internet. For instance, records of users' activities in several network services such as users' post on social media, review documents on e-commerce sites, and data of trends in web search engine, are available. In this paper, we refer such data as communication behavioral data. Communication behavioral data can reflect users' interest and trends in the society, and therefore, many researchers utilize the data for inferring or predicting the states of the network users and their communities. This paper focuses on such techniques called community instrumentation. Examples of community instrumentation include predicting disease spread, inferring group performance, and inferring importance of individuals in a group. Such techniques have been studied in wide-range of research areas. This paper introduces research trends of community instrumentation techniques, and also discusses their open issues and future directions.
