Proposal for NFV scalable service chaining with decreased virtual resources
Takamichi Nishijima, Shinya Kano (Fujitsu Lab.) NS2015-160
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Service chain is a data transfer path through virtual network functions which are deployed on generic servers based on a user request for various network services. In the service chain, users desire to adequately and promptly use various network functions, such as firewalls, wide area network accelerators or web proxies. We study the scalable service chaining system which automatically deploys and manages virtual machines executing various network functions on generic servers with using network functions virtualization (NFV) technology. Our system automatically adjusts the number of the virtual machines based on current status for quality assurance. This paper proposes a new load balancing method that combines load balancers and routing controls for decreasing virtual resources and latency. Through elementary simulations, our proposal has achieved 34% reduction of virtual resources and 80% reduction of latency.
