The rapid penetration of cloud computing is accelerating the need for one-to-many file transfers to deliver and duplicate data and applications among distributed data centers in an efficient manner.
The purpose of our work is to develop an one-to-many Multipath-Multicast File Transfer in which multipath transfer and multicast transfer are combined with a proper scheduling and implemented by OpenFlow, aiming at reduction of the completion time for each of multiple receivers of a file.
In order to transfer a file to multiple heterogeneous receivers over multiple phases, it is essential to adaptively design a scheduling that consists of the division of the file into blocks, the delivery routes to multiple receivers in each phase, and the block allocation for each route, in response to network topology and bandwidth.
In this paper, we propose an approach that derives a possible scheduling from a given order of receivers to be considered as parameter in a sequential fashion by some algorithm, generates many scheduling instances by varying the order of receivers, and finally selects a good scheduling among them.
Our approach is shown to be able to determine a proper scheduling for the one-to-many Multipath-Multicast File Transfer through performance evaluation in real experiments of an OpenFlow implementation with small topologies and in model-based numerical computation with large topologies as well. |
