Java has been educated in many universities and professional schools due to the reliability, portability, and easy learning. Because the time is limited for Java programming educations, the coding rules are usually not educated there. The coding rules consist of naming rules, coding styles, and potential problems. As a result, codes by students cause the problem of the low readability. In this paper, we propose a learning tool for readable code writing for students who has learned the Java grammar and are going to write codes for final projects. We implemented the proposed tool in the Web-based Java Programming Learning Assistant System (JPLAS) that has been developed by our group. Then, we evaluated improvements of readability for four codes that are refined by the tool through questionnaire to five students in our group. In future works, we will evaluate the usability of the tool by students. |
