Development of Card Type Parametric Loudspeaker and Its Evaluation

(in English) This report provides acoustic and electric performances of a parametric loudspeaker with an ultrasonic emitter of 2.5 mm in thickness. Newly developed and commercially available surface-mount airborne ultrasonic transducers are used to prototype the emitter, being much smaller, thinner, and lighter than conventionally used piezoelectric ceramic transducers. The distinctive feature of the emitter generates around 40-kHz powerful ultrasonic waves even for low driving voltage. The performances the authors are focused on are on-axis acoustic pressure curves and beam patterns of the ultrasonic and parametric waves, input-output characteristics of their frequency components, and electric power consumptions. As a result, the new type ultrasonic transducers used in this study have a practical potential for realizing a thin parametric loudspeaker like a card.
