We study on the topology optimal design method of three dimensional optical waveguide devices based on sensitivity analysis by using beam propagation method(BPM).
In case that refractive index is varied slowly with respect to the propagation direction and backward wave reflections are negligible, higher-speed analysis is available by using the BPM even if device length is long.
Thus, it is expected that computational cost of the topology optimal design is decreased by using the BPM.
In this study, the semi-vector BPM based on the alternating direction implicit method(ADIM) is applied for the wave propagation analysis.
In addition, the density method is selected to represent refractive index distribution and the adjoint variable method is applied for the sensitivity analysis. |
