The power transmission efficiency of the spiral coil used in wireless charging for electric vehicle, if back of the coil has a metal such as an iron plate, will be decreased by the eddy current loss. This effect may be increased, in case that there is a positional shift between the power transmitting and receiving coil.
In order to reduce the effect, a ferrite core needs to layout at the back of the coil. However the core is desired as small as possible for cost and weight reduction.
We confirmed the size and thickness of the core on the power transmission efficiency can be calculated using Magnetic Analysis Mixed with Circuit Synthesis, which match with the test results.
In conclusion, we have revealed an optimal core size. |
