Effect of grouping in vector recognition system Based on SOM

(in English) Abstract This paper discusses effect of grouping based on self-organising map．The SOM is a one of unsupervised
learning neural network，and is commonly used to form clusters using its topology preserving nature．
Therefore the SOM is used for various pattern recognition applications．In image recognition，it’s recognition accuracy
is degraded under difficult lighting conditions．This paper proposes a new image recognition system that
employs a grouping method．The proposed system consists of grouping of vectors according to their brightness，
and vector classification that is carried out in the assigned group．Each group tunes recognition parameters for
the vectors belonging to the group．The proposed method is applied to position identification from omnidirectional
image．The experimental results show that the system can run at 92.8% of recognition rate．
