Line Segmentation of On-line Handwritten Mathematical Expressions

(in English) This paper presents methods of line segmentation for multiple lines of online handwritten mathematical expressions. We propose Delayed Stroke Merge to prevent over segmentation caused by delayed strokes; Fraction Line Grouping to combine over-segemented components of a fraction; and Segmentation by Recognition to evaluate the likelihood of handwritten mathematical expressions. Addition of Delayed Stroke Merge and Fraction Line Grouping has improved line segmentation accuracy from 90.11% to 97.67%. Further addition of Segmentation by Recognition has improved line segmentation accuracy to 97.67%. As for line segmentation speed, however, the former system is much faster than the latter system.
