One of major drawbacks in OFDM is its high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). As a conventional method to reduce PAPR in OFDM transmitter, a self-synchronized scrambler-based selected mapping method (SS-SLM) has been investigated. In this method, a self-synchronized scrambler is utilized to generate candidate sequences in SLM. At the receiver side, original data sequence is obtained by descrambling operation. In this paper, we consider an effective design of SS-SLM to improve BER performance while keeping PAPR reduction capability where only most signicant bits allocated to I- and Q-phase of QAM symbol are scrambled to reduce PAPR of QAM-OFDM signals. Simulation results prove that BER performance of QAM-OFDM signal is effectively
improved using the proposed design (PSS-SLM: Partial SS-SLM) compared with the conventional SS-SLM scheme,
while reducing instantaneous power at CCDF=10􀀀4 by about 1.8dB by using PSS-SLM. |
