A magnetic sensor using a polymer-based vibrator with a large dynamic range and high resolution has been developed for sensing a high magnetic field. It consisted of a bimorph made of poly(phenylene sulfide)(PPS) and a piece of phosphor-bronze foil glued on the free end of the bimorph. When a magnetic field in the direction perpendicular to the bimorph was applied, the foil cut the magnetic flux, and generated an output voltage across the leads. A low-mechanical-loss polymer, was employed as the elastomer in the sensor to increase its sensitivity. The prototype sensor was tested for sensing the magnetic field in the sensitivity range of 1–5700 G and exhibited a resolution of 1 G. In this report, basic performances of the developed sensor are investigated. |
