A Low-Power Intelligent Camera using an FPGA toward Internet of Things Agriculture

(in English) With rapid increase of the Internet devices and the decreases of the sensor devices,
the Internet of Things~(IoT) has been proposed as a keyword for the next generation industry.
In this paper, we propose the Intelligent camera which includes a camera, an FPGA, a micro processor, and a wireless communication in order to agriculture.
It requires high-performance compute vision with a battery drivable system.
To satisfy them, we propose the shift operation based HSV converter which reduces the hardware resources.
Also, we use both a micro processor and an FPGA.
The micro processor controls the power sources to realize the sleep mode,
while the FPGA realizes high-performance and low-power HSV converter
to compute the growth of a green leaf.
Although the proposed shift-based HSV converter causes 8.4% error compared with the original HSV one,
its power consumption is 26.51 times smaller than the original one.
When using a lithium-ion polymer battery, we estimate that it will drive more than a year.
Therefore, it is a practical as an agricultural IoT sensor device.
