A Network Coding Based Retransmission Scheme for Multicast Communication in High-Speed Wireless LANs

(in English) With the development of wireless communication technology, wireless LAN has been widely used for the transmission of multicast communication. To improve the quality of multicast communication for the applications such as delivery of video steaming with high resolution, this paper presents a network coding based retransmission scheme as the extension of the IEEE 802.11 DCF protocol. In this scheme, the multicast transmitter composes a packet by XORing two packets which need to be retransmitted during the retransmission phase, and sends it to the multicast group. The receiver extracts the loss packet from the encoded packet by XORing it with the packets which have been received correctly. The performances of the scheme, in terms of the reception ratio of the data packet and the average delay of packets at each receiver, are evaluated by computer simulation and the effectiveness are clarified by comparing them with the existing schemes.
