Proposal of the remote optical network unit for realizing an optical ad hoc networking method in the Elastic Lambda Aggregation Network

(in English) To improve disaster tolerance in optical access and aggregation network, the Elastic Lambda Aggregation Network (EλAN) has been proposed. The target of the EλAN is to create next generation metro and access integrated networks. In the EλAN, an active optical distribution network (ODN) will provide restoration capability among an optical line terminal (OLT) and optical network units (ONUs). However, there is a case when many central offices (COs) will be collapsed and ODN will be able to provides partial fiber routes from ONUs to OLTs. In such scenario, if ONU can communicate with adjusting ONU via survived ODN, multi-hop communication from an ONU to OLT via ONUs will be possible. This paper proposes an optical ad hoc networking method to realize the multi-hop communication, and also proposes how to realize direct ONU-to-ONU communication.
