Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In the current study, we aimed to investigate the neural mechanism underlying integration of information in sentence comprehension. We measured the brain activity of an epilepsy patient with electrocorticography (ECoG) during a sentence comprehension task. When comparing the normal sentence condition to the anomalous sentence condition, decreasing power in the mu-rhythm (10-13 Hz) was found at a few electrodes positioned around the left central sulcus. In addition, we observed discriminative increases of phase locking value between electrodes during the periods 100-200 ms, 400-600 ms, and 800-1000 ms after the onset of sentence-final element, respectively. These results suggest that, in the comprehension process of action sentences, lexical information was integrated by the synchronization between temporal cortices, motor-related regions, and language-related regions.
