This paper describes a method to detect cross-browser presentation incompatibilities. The proposed method firstly extracts the DOM structure of the target Web document by parsing HTML source code, the positions of each DOM elements and the captured display image of the Web page. This method compares the pages from two kinds of perspectives, relative position of the DOM elements and text contents. In the former perspective, our method detects the differences in relative position of each DOM elements and creates cliques of DOM elements whose relative positions are unchanged. Such cliques clearly show the user how the document layout was distorted. In the latter perspective, our method recognizes text images within each DOM element and compares them between each browser. It clearly depicts garbled characters. By evaluating the method by 15 URLs and four kinds of browsers, we have got 96% and 68% (recall and precision) for text comparison, and 96% and 61% for detecting layout incompatibilities. We think that the proposed method is useful enough because of the high recall rate. The evaluation results may indicate that the proposed method can be considered as useful for improving the efficiency of some of the cross-browser testing tasks. |
