[Invited Talk] An overview of the 2015 Jelinek workshop on speech and language technology

(in English) Recently, Automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems have been successfully deployed in many mobile devices. However, the performance of current ASR systems is still limited when dealing with challenging conditions, e.g. when using a far-field (distant) microphone in noisy conditions or attending to recognize spontaneous speech. To tackle these issues, two groups of researchers gathered during the 2015 Jelinek memorial workshop in speech and language technologies (JSALT). One team focused on the development of structured computational network architectures for robust ASR. The other team targeted more specifically the challenges of far-field enhancement and recognition in mismatched settings. This paper will briefly describe the summer workshop activity and summarize some of the topics that we worked within the far-field ASR team.
