Recently, the spread of distribution services of ultra high-definition (UHD) video, such as 4K/8K, with optical fiber systems is expected, and a distribution with PON (passive optical network) is promising in access networks. In the future, the PON-based access networks will be needed to accommodate many terminals of various types of services, including mobile networks (mobile fronthaul, mobile backhaul) and IoT services. With respect to the bandwidth in PON-based access networks, the UHD video distribution services are considered to be the most bandwidth-consuming, therefore, it is essential to forecast effective methods of UHD video distribution in access networks. This paper targets three video distribution methods which are expected to be employed in PON-based access network, and describes the calculated results of bandwidth necessary in PON and the discussions of applicable use cases of the three methods. |
