Optical flow detection is an identification problem of spatio-temporal partial differential equation (PDE).The weighted integral method (WIM) provides an efficient and direct solution to this problem. It converts differentials to weighted integrals to obtain algebraic equations, hence two approaches are possible.One is the temporal WIM which converts a time differential to short-time weighted integral measurements. It is easily realized by the correlation image sensor. Another is the spatial WIM which converts spatial differentials to space-spread measurements. Photo detector covered by a grating can be such a measuring apparatus. It can also be a mathematical model for the visual receptors characterized by various sensitivity distribution. Comparing these subjects, we show the potential of the WIM and various schemes and applications of the image motion detection. |
