[Poster Presentation] Investigation of Relationship between Signal-to-Noise Ratio of EM Information Leakage and Side-Channel Attacking Cost.

(in English) Attacking cost of side-channel attack (SCA) can increase by application of various countermeasures to electromagnetic (EM) information leakage. The application of countermeasures can also increase the cost to evaluate the countermeasures in terms of SCA resistance. To calculate the evaluation indexes requires to perform the SCAs. If a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the side-channel traces is used instead of the two existing evaluation indexes, the evaluation can be executed without performing the side-channel attack. It is known that the correlation coefficient is related the SNR. However, measurement method of the SNR has not been established. Therefore, we considered how to measure the SNR in this study. Then the SNR was calculated from signal and noise components which were separated by changing the averaging factor at the side-channel traces measurement. In addition, the correlation coefficients were calculated by changing the SNR, and compared with analytical equation. As a result, the analytical equation and the measured results were roughly consistent. Therefore, the proposed measurement method of the SNR is useful for the SCA resistance evaluation in terms of the SNR.
