Recently, Wireless Smart Utility Network (Wi-SUN) systems based on IEEE 802.15.4g have been introduced in various fields e.g. electricity metering, gas metering. Smart water metering systems are also considered but there is no information about the transmission between meter devices. It is impossible for the concentrator to exchange packets with all devices in the field, so multi-hop network is needed for area expansion. When multi-hop transmission is adopted in smart water metering, meter devices must send packets to devices in the ground. Therefore, we have to evaluate propagation and transmission characteristics of Wi-SUN packets for high reliable metering systems. This paper reports received signal strength indicator (RSSI) and packet error rate of IEEE 802.15.4g based device-to-device communication systems for water metering located in water meter boxes by field experimental results. |
